The McPeak-Sirois Group would like to warmly thank Dr. Louise Provencher, a newly retired surgical oncologist at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval, for her exceptional support, including as a Medical Advisor for the Programme Accès-recherche, a role she has held since fall 2021. Dr. Provencher was a member of the Group’s Executive Scientific Committee since its creation and was Committee President for a 2-year term, from July 2019 to July 2021.
We are proud to be able to count on her great expertise. Dr. Provencher’s contribution to breast cancer research is considerable: she has participated in multiple international multicentre studies sponsored by prestigious organizations such as the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the National Cancer Institute of Canada and the Breast Cancer International Research Group, in addition to participating in trials funded by pharmaceutical companies.
During her career, Dr. Provencher also participated in several Canadian advisory committees on breast cancer. She was a member of the research team of the Centre des maladies du sein Deschênes-Fabia and of the Unité de recherche en santé des populations, which has conducted several original research projects on epidemiology, breast cancer causes, evaluative research and patients’ quality of life.
Dr. Provencher has published numerous scientific articles and spoke frequently at international conferences on breast cancer. She has received numerous awards and special mentions including recently that of “Grands Québécois” of the year 2019 by The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Quebec.
