A new collaboration in Ontario with the Sunnybrook Research Institute

The McPeak-Sirois Group is proud to announce a new collaboration in Ontario: after the Ottawa Hospital, the Sunnybrook Research Institute has now joined the consortium.

The goal of this collaboration is not only to provide people with breast cancer in the Greater Toronto Area with better access to clinical trials in breast cancer, but also to expand the network of researchers working with the Group.

“We are delighted to welcome a second member in Ontario to our Consortium, which currently has 15 members. This is a wonderful interprovincial collaboration for the benefit of patients and researchers” said Charles Sirois and Susan McPeak, co-founders of the McPeak-Sirois Group.

Dr. Katarzyna Jerzak, a medical oncologist and associate scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute, will sit on the Group’s Scientific Committee which ensures the selection of clinical trials conducted within the consortium.

“On behalf of the Scientific Committee of the McPeak Sirois Group, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Katarzyna Jerzak from the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to our committee. Dr. Jerzak is a dedicated clinician-investigator whose work has had a significant impact on advancing personalized treatments for breast cancer. Her expertise, scientific rigor, and patient-centered vision will greatly enrich our strategic thinking and collaborative research initiatives.

Her appointment marks an important milestone in our mission to build a strong national network that unites clinical and scientific excellence across Canada. Sunnybrook becomes the second Ontario-based center to join our network, and this strategic partnership will benefit patients, healthcare professionals, and the oncology research community alike.” Dr. Jamil Asselah, Chair of the Group’s Scientific Committee and Medical Oncologist at the MUHC.

“I am thrilled that Sunnybrook Research Institute is now a member of the McPeak-Sirois Group. This membership will expand access to cutting-edge clinical trials, offering our patients the latest advancements in medical oncology” Dr. Katarzyna Jerzak, Medical Oncologist and Associate Scientist, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

“Breast Cancer Canada is proud to see Sunnybrook join the growing efforts of the McPeak Sirois Group. This partnership is another reflection of the power of collaboration and improving patient care. Our growing program continues to expand access to cutting-edge clinical trials for patients. Adding Sunnybrook to the roster is an important step in ensuring more Canadians benefit from the latest advancements in science.” – Kimberly Carson, CEO, Breast Cancer Canada.

This expansion is possible within the Programme Accès-recherche Dr. André-Robidoux of the McPeak-Sirois Group, funded by Breast Cancer Canada and aimed at giving more patients who live outside of major urban centres access to cutting-edge treatments.
