Better access to research that cares for women with breast cancer in Chaudière-Appalaches

Lévis, January 17th, 2024 – The McPeak-Sirois Group, one of the largest clinical research consortiums in breast cancer in Canada, and the Centre Intégré en Santé et Services sociaux de Chaudière-Appalaches (CISSS-CA) will collaborate to enable people with breast cancer to have better access to clinical trials in the region.

This partnership is part of the Programme Accès-recherche Dr André-Robidoux of the McPeak-Sirois Group and is financially supported by Breast Cancer Canada. This program aims to give more people living in regions in Quebec access to clinical trials, which are cutting-edge treatments. Thanks to clinical research, it is possible to benefit from the most recent scientific advances and improve patient’s chances of survival as well as their quality of life.

“We are very proud to count the CISSS Chaudière-Appalaches as an affiliated member of our Group which now brings together 12 hospital centers across Quebec,” underlined Charles Sirois and Susan McPeak, Co-founders of the McPeak-Sirois Group.

For people in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, his commitment will result in significantly improved access to clinical research trials in breast cancer” said Dr. Jamil Asselah, Chair of the Group’s Scientific Committee and Medical Oncologist at the MUHC.

“This association with the McPeak-Sirois Group will allow women with breast cancer from Chaudière-Appalaches to participate in clinical trials without having to travel outside their region” said Dr. Vincent Barrette, Hemato-Oncologist at the CISSS de Chaudière-Appalaches.
