Dr. Robidoux, a surgical oncologist at the CHUM and Founding President of the Executive Scientific Committee of the McPeak-Sirois Group, passed away this summer, on July 25th.
As early as 2008, he had taken his pilgrim’s staff to accompany the couple consisting of Susan McPeak and Charles Sirois on their tour of Quebec’s major hospitals centers. He initiated numerous meetings with his peers to raise awareness of a clinical research consortium project in breast cancer, a first in Quebec.
An internationally renowned surgical oncologist, Dr. Robidoux has focused on the significant contribution of clinical research in the management of patient care. Considered one of Canada’s leaders in the field, he has made a significant contribution to the advancement of clinical research in Canada with the ultimate goal of putting patients at the heart of treatment. In 2010, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) presented him with the Distinguished Investigator Lifetime Achievement Award for his unwavering commitment to clinical research in breast cancer. That same year, the Association of Breast Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England awarded him the British Journal of Surgery Lecture Award.
“Whether from the point of view of patients, researchers or research institutions, everyone agrees that clinical research is the key to curing tomorrow’s cancers. ”
André Robidoux, Les raisons d’espérer : ce que la recherche nous apprend sur le cancer du sein, Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 2013.
A caring man endowed with a great sense of humanity and respected by his patients and colleagues, Dr. Robidoux has made his mark on the fight against breast cancer in Canada and we are particularly proud to have been able to count on his unwaving support during the implementation and throughout the development of the Group’s activities.
His name will remain attached to that of the McPeak-Sirois Group and to research that cares.
