A decade worth celebrating: On October 8, the Grand Quay in Old Montreal came alive as the McPeak-Sirois Group celebrated its 10th anniversary during the 2nd Montreal Summit on Artificial Intelligence and Oncology.
Following opening remarks by Dr. Jamil Asselah, Chair of the Group’s Scientific Committee, the film “10 Years of Impact” looked back on the journey made possible through the collaboration of our 17 member hospitals, all working together to improve patient care. The Group’s Executive Director, Dr. Dominique Johnson, and co-founders Susan McPeak and Charles Sirois then shared their pride and gratitude for all that has been accomplished.
Marie-Ève Desrosiers, CEO of the CHUM; Dr. Lucy Gilbert, Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the MUHC; and Julie Labbé, CEO of Santé Québec – Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean – University, reaffirmed their institutions’ commitment to the Group. Dr. Jean Latreille, National Director of the Programme québécois de cancérologie, delivered an inspiring call to work together to shape the future of cancer care in Quebec.
Ten projects already making a difference. One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of 10 AI projects, demonstrating that innovation is already making its way to the bedside. From BEN-AI, which matches patients with the right clinical trials, to Breast Compass AI, which supports shared treatment decision-making, innovative ideas are becoming practical solutions.
The AMANDA projects showcased how AI can help patients better prepare for appointments and enable earlier interventions, while AI applications in breast surgery are helping optimize surgical margins. A moving testimonial from a patient about access to clinical research reminded everyone why this work matters.
The next chapter is just beginning. The evening also offered a glimpse into the future. Dr. Asselah explained why now is the time to integrate AI into cancer care, while the panel discussion, “AI in Healthcare: Progress, Promise or Risk?”, brought together experts to share and debate their perspectives.
The evening concluded with a tribute to the Group’s longstanding partners, including those supporting the Programme Accès-recherche Dr André-Robidoux and the Quebec Metastatic Breast Cancer Registry, who have been by our side since the very beginning. We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment and support.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the event sponsors. Thanks to their support, we were able to host a high-quality event bringing together more than 300 key stakeholders from the oncology and technology sectors around a shared ambition: to advance innovation in oncology by harnessing the full potential of artificial intelligence for the benefit of patients.
